STEVE
DeVITO |
Steve
DeVito was born and raised in Long Branch,
New Jersey. Picking up melodies he would hear
on the radio, at 13, he grabbed a guitar and
never looked back. By the age of 18, DeVito
had already performed with various musical
groups at this time, and was one of the founding
members of the legendary hard rock/post punk
psychedelic band The Secret Syde.
The Secret Syde recorded and released the critically acclaimed LP Hidden
Secrets for Mutha records in 1984. It was around this same time that DeVito
was voted "Most Promising Guitarist of the class of '84" by several
fanzines in the UK and the US. Hidden Secrets was later remixed
for reissue in Europe for Hose Head Records in 1986, where Steve received a production
credit, and is a much sought after collector's item. Their second LP Erebus may
be slated for release. After the Secret Syde disbanded, Steve appeared occasionally
with several bands around the Jersey Shore and joined Sonny Kenn Band alumnus,
Ray Kriessler and Chris Tice, and formed the Blues Boys as they played extensively
through out the late 80's to the mid 90's.
After a three-year hiatus, DeVito started
performing again in '98 with Bud de Gorgue as the dynamic acoustic duo Bud and
Steve. During this time, he began experimenting with different styles of
music such as country, folk, rock, and blues, while honing his singing skills.
A seasoned veteran of the music scene, DeVito
has also guest appeared with the Castle Browne Band, Scott Hunter and the Soul
Searchers, The Barflyz, and as a duo with singer/songwriter Tom Kanach and has
shared the stage with such legends as Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi to the late
Rick Danko from The Band. DeVito averages over 100 live performances per
year, and has appeared on many studio sessions. He was delighted when he was
asked to join Josh Zuckerman's band and appears on Josh's CD’s "Out
From Under" and "Got Love?"
DeVito has been able to utilize his passion for music by coordinating and organizing
several benefit concerts over the years and most recently for the 4-H Kids For
Kids.
